Eurythmy has developed through the insight and work of Rudolf Steiner. Since 1911, eurythmists have been working in the realms of art, healing and education. Foremost a stage art, eurythmy is being developed today all over the world through the work of performing artists, teachers and therapeutic eurythmists in clinics and homes. Eurythmy's benefits as a healing social art for both children and adults are well known. Through working with sound gestures, the eurythmist can reveal the power, strength and healing potential of the word in movement and can help others to do so. The eurythmist learns to be able to experience music as a foundation of the human organism, its revelation being through movement.
In eurythmy the whole human being, body soul and spirit, is the instrument which can express speech and music, making them visible in movement. As with any instrument, certain movements are appropriate, others not. The artistic process includes exploring what these right movements might be. Eurythmy is a social art in which the movement between and around people is more important than that of the individual. Eurythmy leads to this 'in-between' world where life and movement live. This is much needed today where both materialism and fixed inflexible attitudes play such a strong part. |
